New York state recorded 731 new coronavirus deaths, marking its biggest one-day jump in the outbreak. Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Tuesday the state's death toll since the beginning of the outbreak is now 5,489.

More people have now died from the coronavirus in New York City than perished in the Sept. 11, 2001 attack on the World Trade Center.

At least 3,202 people have been killed in the city by the virus, according to a new count released by city health officials Tuesday.

The deadliest terror attack on U.S. soil killed 2,753 people in the city. The alarming coronavirus death number comes even as new hospital admissions have dropped compared to last week.

John Corbett, a New Jersey resident who was passing the September 11th memorial site on Tuesday, said he think that while the events are very different, the coroanvirus outbreak with last in the memories of the county.

"Yeah, it will last with us. They will change how we communicate, how we go about our daily business. But we'll get through it," said Corbett.

New Jersey Resident, Howard Kessler, said he thinks both events show us how connected the world is.

"I think everybody will be a lot more concerned about what goes on, whether it's in our country or other countries.," said Kessler.
