California: Students run for safety as an armed 16-year-old opens fire outside school

In a tragic incident, a 16-year-old student shot two of his classmates on his 16th birthday. The incident took place in the Saugus High School in Southern California on November 14. All the students were in a panic and ran inside the classroom. Reports suggest that the police reached the school shortly after and escorted the students out of the building. 

Open firing outside school

When the students heard the first shot, they all ran inside a barricaded choir classroom. One of the students reported that she thought she was caught. The art teacher, however, was calm and composed. Katie Holt, the fine arts teacher used her presence of mind to save two kids after she pushed the piano against the door. International media reported that at 7:38 in the morning a 16-year-old student opened firing, outside the High School, and killed a 16-year-old girl and a 14-year-old boy. The officials reported that there were five students who suffered injuries. The-16-year-old gunman, whose name was not disclosed shot himself in the head with the last bullet.

The teacher alone managed the students 

Holt took the students to her inner officer, adjacent to the music room where all the students stayed for 29 minutes until the police reached the crime scene. She provided the wounded students with first aid and called 911. She took care of 35 students all by herself before the police arrived, who then ushered the students out of the choir office. The students were asked to raise their hands to their heads. The police investigated the matter for two hours before the students were escorted out of the school building.

Students will take time to recover from the trauma

The parents told international media that the incident was tragic and will bear the consequences. One of the parents opined it will "hit them later". The police are still investigating the matter and trying to find the reason behind the incident.
