Twitter co-founder Evan Williams steps down from company board

Twitter co-founder Evan Williams will leave the social media company’s board of directors at the end of the February month. Twitter announced his departure in a securities filings on Friday after which Williams tweeted confirmation of the news.

Williams served as Twitter’s CEO from 2008 to 2010 and now is chief executive of publishing site Medium.com. He tweeted that stepping down will let him focus on other projects and that he will still be rooting for the Twitter team.

He was the second-largest Twitter shareholder on the company’s board behind CEO and co-founder Jack Dorsey. Dorsey tweeted his appreciation for Williams, who served on the board for 12 years.

Meanwhile, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, who was summoned by the Parliamentary panel on IT on February 25, has once again snubbed the order of the panel and instead sending the company's Head of Public Policy Colin Crowell for the meeting. 

Earlier, the Parliamentary panel on Information Technology had summoned him after refusing to meet "junior officials" of the microblogging site during its meeting on February 11.

The meeting had been called against the backdrop of growing concerns about safeguarding citizens' data privacy and the possibility of social media platforms being used to interfere in the upcoming elections.
