US President Donald Trump likely to visit India amid Modi's invitation

US President Donald Trump said on November 9 that he would visit India at some point and put a light on India-US growing relationship, according to the reports.

US President Donald Trump said on November 9, that he would visit India at some point and highlighted the growing relations between the two countries. He said the relationship between both the nations are very good and a lot of positive things are happening. He said he would come to India on an invitation extended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. When he was asked about his plans to visit the country he said he would be going at some point to India. He addressed the media on the South Lawns of the White House. He was quoted saying Prime Minister Modi is a very good friend of his while referring to the historic 'Howdy Modi' event in Houston in September and added both the nations are working on a trade deal.

Escalating tensions

While sharing a stage with Donald Trump in Houston in September, PM Modi had invited the US President and his family to visit India saying that it will give a new perception to the shared dreams of the two countries. New Delhi and Washington are holding talks to resolve the trade tensions between the two countries. The tensions escalated in June after the US President Donald Trump cancelled preferential trade privileges and in response, India imposed tariffs on some of the US products including almonds and apples.

Minister of Commerce and Industry to visit Washington

Notably, India has been the biggest beneficiary of the Generalised System of Preferences which is an initiative formed to help developing countries sell products to US consumers. The officials from both India and the US have said the work is in progress and are hoping to complete it before the end of the year. Piyush Goyal, Minister of Commerce and Industry is expected to visit Washington on Wednesday, November 13 to work on the pending issues for the proposed trade deal between the two nations. India will be looking to strike a deal with the world's largest economy after choosing not to join the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP).
