A witness says the helicopter crash that killed nine people including former basketball star Kobe Bryant on Sunday sounded like "a big thud". The helicopter crashed onto a hillside in Calabasas, California. Scott Daehlin saw the chopper come down.

"It was just a big thud. Just a big heavy thud like throwing a boulder against the wall" said Daehlin, who works at the nearby Church in the Canyon. "I heard the fuselage break up, pieces of fibreglass and plexiglass break, and the rotors immediately went silent," he said. Another eyewitness, church congregant Gerry Kochria, was looking up at the helicopter but lost sight of it because then weather was foggy. He described hearing an explosion, then realised the helicopter had crashed.
