Twinkle Khanna's relevance as a public figure, comes more from her person as Mrs. Funnybones - which is entirely in alignment with her profession as an author of repute - a persona she happily switched her former profession of being an actress with. Khanna has also dabbled with producing films, courtesy of husband Akshay Kumar's thriving career as an actor. Still primarily describing herself as an author, the latest round of promotions for her book Welcome to Paradise, saw her share the details of an anecdote involving Arunachalam Muruganantham, the real life Pad Man.
When Arunachalam Muruganantham failed to recognise Twinkle Khanna
During a promotional media interaction in lieu of her latest book, Welcome to Paradise, held last week at Delhi's Sunder Nursery, Twinkle Khanna delved into an anecdote that adequately displayed her "greed" for a good story over being 'slighted'. For context, Arunachalam Muruganantham real life story forms the foundation of chapter The Sanitary Man of Sacred Land from her 2016 bestselling book The Legend of Lakshmi Prasad.
Khanna revealed how when she had met Murugananatham, he had innocently mistaken her for Raveena Tandon. Khanna also quipped that had it not been for her "greed" to tell a good story, she would have let her ego get the better of her. She said, "He looked at me and mistook me for Raveena Tandon. At that point, I didn’t want to write his story but my greed was so much that I overcame that slight." This anecdote has an even more interesting layer to it when one factors in Khanna's husband Akshay Kumar's romantic involvement with Raveena Tandon, prior to his wedding to the former.
What is Pad Man about?
Pad Man, with Akshay Kumar in the titular role, featured the real life story of Tamil Nadu's Arunachalam Muruganantham, who created affordable sanitary napkins for the women of his village. The film, a dramatised version of his story, was directed by R Balki and featured Radhika Apte opposite Kumar.
The film was notably produced by Twinkle Khanna in collaboration with Prerna Arora.
