RSS calls PM Modi's Ayodhya statement "a positive step", says people expect the government to fulfil its promise within this tenure

The RSS has issued a statement on what Prime Minister Narendra Modi said about the Ayodhya dispute, as spoken by him during his wide-ranging interview with ANI's editor Smita Prakash.

In response to PM Modi reiterating that the construction of a Ram Mandir at Ayodhya is a manifesto promise and effectively stating that his government will take the Supreme Court's lead in the matter, the RSS has said the following:

In his interview to ANI, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had spoken along three fronts when asked about a Ram Mandir ordinance:

• First, he repeated his resolve towards constructing a Ram Mandir at the disputed site: "We have said in our BJP manifesto that a solution would be found to this issue under the ambit of the Constitution" 
• Second, he made clear that proposed legislative routes such as an ordinance could only come into play once the ongoing legal process -- the title suit in the Supreme Court -- concludes:

"Let the judicial process be over. After the judicial process is over, whatever will be our responsibility as the government, we are ready to make all efforts"

• Third, he asked for the matter to not be politicised, saying "Don't weigh it in political terms", and took on the Congress specifically for attempting to stall the matter in the court:

"Nobody can deny that those sitting in the governments in the last 70 years have tried their best to stall a solution to this (Ayodhya) issue."

"I beseech the Congress, for the sake of national peace and amity, they should stop its lawyers from stalling this in the court."

"In the court, Congress lawyers, who are creating obstacles, should stop. Let the judicial process take its own course".

The Prime Minister's view comes just days before the apex court takes up the Ayodhya title dispute again on Jan 4 -- with the bench that will hear the case to be decided. The call for a legislative solution in the issue had been raised by a number of pro-Mandir groups after the Supreme Court earlier de-prioritised its hearings in the case till 2019.
