National Stock Exchange (NSE) Market and Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) Market to remain closed on May 1, 2025.  

The stock exchange markets, NSE and BSE, will remain closed on May 1, 2025, on Maharashtra Day, commemorating the formation of the state after the linguistic reorganisation. 

The weekend effect is a phenomenon in financial markets where the theory states that returns on Mondays follow the prevailing trend from the previous Friday.  

The stock market is an exchange platform for companies to raise capital by issuing stocks. Investors buy and sell shares of publicly traded companies to trade stocks among themselves. 

The NSE generally records higher trading volumes and market capitalisation due to its larger number of active traders and companies. 

The BSE, India’s oldest stock exchange, offers many listed companies, including those with small market capitalisation.  

In June, the stock market will observe a holiday only on June 7, 2025, on the occasion of Bakri Eid. However, it is on a Saturday, a regular market day off.  

As FY 2024-25 draws close, major companies announce their fourth-quarter results and dividends. Nestle India Ltd. and Hindustan Unilever Ltd. results are released on April 24, 2025.  

Nestle India has recommended a final dividend of Rs 10 per share for the fourth quarter of 2024-25. 

Hindustan Unilever Limited reported a net profit of Rs 2,464 crore for the recent quarter, marking a decline of Rs 94 crore, or approximately 3.67%, year-on-year.
