1 heaped tsp nigella seeds2 green chillies slit lengthwise½ tsp turmeric powder
150mls water½ tsp sugar

Soak poppy seeds in hot water for 2 hours, then blend with 4 tbsp of soaking liquid to make a paste.

Heat oil in a pan, add nigella seeds & green chilies, fry for 7-8 seconds, then add potatoes, mix & fry for 5 minutes.

Add turmeric, fry 5 minutes, then stir in poppy seed paste, water, and season to taste, coating all potato pieces.

Boil, then simmer covered for 15 minutes, stirring halfway, adding sugar, chillies (if desired), and water as needed.
