After releasing on December 1, Ranbir Kapoor Animal has become one of the highest-grossing films this year. However, with new releases Salaar and Dunki hitting the big screens, shows of the Sandeep Reddy Vanga directorial have reduced and its business in the 4th weekend has been affected.
Animal collections take a hit due to new releases
In its fourth weekend, owing to less number of screens, Animal minted ₹4.55 crore. According to trade experts, the movie would have done more business had Salaar and Dunki not been released ahead of Christmas. With reduced screens and the audience getting more options, the Ranbir Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna starrer's business has taken a hit.
In 24 days since its release, Animal has collected ₹536.17 crore in all languages in India. In Hindi, it has minted ₹486.39 crore. The Telugu version of the film has emerged as the 2nd biggest contributor to its collection with ₹44.19 crore. Separately, in the US, Animal has become the 4th highest Indian grosser in North America, according to the production house T-Series.
About Animal film
The pan-India movie also features Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol, Triptii Dimri, Suresh Oberoi, Shakti Kapoor and Prem Chopra. Animal showcases a violent world set against the backdrop of a troubled relationship between Ranbir’s Ranvijay Singh and his father Balbir Singh, played by Anil.
While it is running successfully in theatres, a section of critics and viewers have slammed Animal, calling it misogynistic and graphically violent.
The film's runtime stands at 3.21 hours currently but Sandeep Reddy Vanga has confirmed that a longer version will be released on OTT.
