Uncoupled, Shadow and Bone, Agent Elvis: 9 web series cancelled in 2023
While the OTT space may have been enjoying a boom, 2023 saw streaming giant Netflix officially discontinue 14 shows due to lack of viewership.

Streaming platforms has gained a reputation for cancelling a large number of its original series or conversely, abruptly concluding them with a final season. The rate of cancellation of shows by streaming giant Netflix this year has reduced compared to 2022 which saw the discontinuation of 20 shows. However, in 2023 the number stands at 14. As 2023 comes to an end, here are the series which have been cancelled in 2023.
Shadow and Bone
Netflix's big fantasy series Shadow and Bone premiered on April 23, 2021, and was one of the major Netflix Originals to get cancelled following the end of the SAG-AFTRA strikes in November. Despite its strong fandom, the series witnessed a huge drop in viewership after season 1. The series featured Jessie Mei Li, Archie Renaux and Ben Barnes in the lead.
Agent Elvis
Agent Elvis is also on the November 2023 list of cancelled shows. The show premiered on March 17, 2023, and was cancelled on November 15. The Matthew McConaughey voice-landed series will be returning anytime soon. The series never made it to the Netflix Top 10.
Captain Fall
Another animated series which started streaming this year in June picked up 20 episodes. Unfortunately, Captain Fall failed to gain any viewership.
Sex/Life
Sex/Life inspired by the book 44 Chapters About 4 Men by BB Easton featuring Sarah Shahi, Margaret Odette, Mike Vogel and Billie Connelley began on June 25, 2021. The series was cancelled after the second season given the poor viewership for it to continue.
Sex Education
The story of Maeve and Ottis has garnered love from the audience from the first season of the show. However, as the fourth season dropped, Netflix announced it to be the final season.
1899
1899 revolves around a migrant steamship from London heading towards New York. The passengers discover another migrant boat adrift during their journey after an unexpected turn. The series spent five weeks at the top chart but viewership declined. The show was cancelled on January 2.
Lockwood and Co
Lockwood and Co. starring Ruby Stokes, Cameron Chapman and Ali Hadji-Heshmati is based on a teenage ghost hunter and how she forms an agency. The series was cancelled on May 12.
Uncoupled
Uncoupled starring Neil Patrick Harris marked the actor's big return to the comedy scene. The show made it to the Top 10 for one week, landing in sixth place. It was however, cancelled in January this year and it was later picked up by Showtime.
Snowflake Mountain
Snowflake Mountain was cancelled by Netflix after the first season. The reality series made headlines over viewership. The show was about young people leaving their comfort of their homes and exploring the wilderness to win a potential cash prize.
