Big breakthrough in Thane synagogue bomb threat case: Location traced to Europe via VPN

Thane: In a big breakthrough in the Thane synagogue bomb threat case, the local police on Saturday have identified the VPN from where the mail was sent. A Thane police official told Republic, "The probe has revealed that the the emailer had sent the email using VPN but so far the location has appeared to be from European country, We are verifying the spot location , Since the email id has multi-layer protection it's a bit difficult to tell the exact location".

When asked if the Israel Agencies have gotten in touch with the Indian agencies in connection with the threat, the officer said "The Isreali authorities might be in touch with the state agencies but they can't carry out any investigation on Indian soil unless they come through a proper channel. Our Agencies are capable of carrying out any investigation."

Days after a blast was reported outside the Israeli Embassy in New Delhi, a synagogue received a bomb threat mail in its official email id on December 27. The incident was reported on Wednesday. The threat mail was received from email ID ‘dead123123@msgsafe.info’. In the mail, the sender wrote, “I have planted bombs inside your synagogue. The explosives are well hidden and they will go off soon. We will make sure you all end up dead. We are a terrorist group called: Fuming."

The president of the synagogue, Samy Daniel, in his complaint to police ,stated, "I didn't open the mail until 12.30 p.m. on Thursday, even though it arrived in the inbox on Wednesday at 1.30 p.m. I was shocked to receive the threat" .

Email sent from European Country

Meanwhile, an officer associated to central agency said, "The state agencies are already investigating the case. We have been intimated regarding the threat mail but we have asked the state agencies to also probe it. Wherever the state agencies need our assistance. we will co-ordinate accordingly. There are multiple threat emails and calls so we act only if needed otherwise. The investigation part is carried out by state agencies".

The Thane Zone 1 DCP Ganesh Gawade said "We have registered the Offence and our team is investigating the matter. The investigation is on a very primary stage. We will take whatever necessary action is needed".
