IPL implements new rule allowing bowlers to deliver two bouncers per over

In the IPL 2024, players will be able to deliver two bouncers per over instead of just one. This is a big change from the previous rule (one bouncer per over). This change, which was tried recently during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, is meant to make the bat and ball more competitive. Now, bowlers can use one bouncer early in the over and still have another one ready. Concerns about player safety meant that only one guard could be used at first, but the idea has been talked about for a long time and is now set to happen

Impact Player rule to still continue 

.At the same time, the Impact Player rule that was adopted in the previous season will still be in place for the next IPL season. At the toss, teams will still have to give a list of four replacements along with their starting eleven. While the game is going on, any of the four players can be the Impact Player. In the first game of the season, against Gujarat Titans (GT), Tushar Deshpande of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) became the first Impact Player in IPL history. He filled in for Ambati Rayudu.

Jaydev Unadkat on two bouncers per over rule 

The veteran left-arm pacer Jaydev Unadkat, who bowls for Saurashtra and Team India made his last appearance for the Lucknow Super Giants, was excited about the change from one to two bouncers per over. The 32-year-old, who has played for several IPL teams, expressed his thoughts on the new regulation and supported it.

Jaydev Unadkat is listed with a starting price of ₹50 lakh as the IPL 2024 auction draws near. He is a prominent player in the auction due to his abundance of experience and versatility as a left-arm pacer, and his insights into the rule changes provide an interesting element to the excitement around the forthcoming season. Unadkat expressed his views to ESPN Cricinfo and said: 

"I do feel two bouncers an over is very much useful, and I feel it's one of those things which gives the bowler an added advantage over batsmen. Because, for example, if I bowl a slower bouncer… the batsman in the previous case is sure that there's no more bouncer coming. In this case, even if you bowl one slower bouncer in the first half of the over, you can still use one more [in the over]. Someone who is weak against bouncers will have to be better at it and then it will give the bowler one more weapon in their armoury," 

"Also in the death overs, you have one more option. So, it was becoming more of yorker-oriented [bowling] in death overs for fast bowlers. Nowiit can be yorker, slower ball and bouncers because of two bouncers an over. Even if you don't bowl the second bouncer, the batsman still has that expectation that the bowler might bowl the second bouncer,"
