Karnataka Lokayukta Vishwanath Shetty has been stabbed inside the Lokayukta Office in Bengaluru

14:29 pm: He was stabbed three times. The attacker has been arrested

14:30 pm: Vishwanath Shetty is out of danger, says Karnataka Home Minister

14:35 pm: The attacker had reportedly been summoned for questioning

14:41 pm: The Lokayukta was stabbed while he was getting prepared for a meeting, as per reports

14:42 pm: Lokayukta Justice Shetty's condition is said to be critical. He was reportedly stabbed twice in the stomach and once in his hand

14:45 pm: Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah and the state's home minister are expected to visit 

14:50 pm: Chief minister Siddaramaiah reaches Mallya Hospital

15:01 pm: Vishwanath Shetty's condition is stable, as per reports

15:06 pm: Police are currently reviewing CCTV footage of the office. The accused reportedly went inside the office by claiming he wanted to speak to the Lokayukta.

15:14 pm: Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah issues statement: 

"Lokayukta was stabbed two times. He is undergoing scans. The accused had given a complaint and insisted on meeting the Lokayukta. He attacked and tried to kill using a big weapon.

I met him (Lokayukta Vishwanath Shetty) and pray for his recovery.

I spoke to the doctor and will see if there were lapses. Attackers name is Tej Raj Sharma."

16:13 pm: Karnataka Lokayukta Stabbing: Attacker's Register Entry Accessed

The Karnataka Lokayukta is the chief ombudsman in the state and was formed in 1986 to investigate and report corruption in the government of Karnataka and to redress public grievances related to state government employees.

Vishwanath Shetty had been appointed to the Lokayukta's office in January 2017. He is a former High Court Justice.
