A major fire broke out in a stationary cargo vessel on the Muri Ganga river in West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district on Saturday. A police official said that during the incident, which reportedly occurred on Saturday evening, no one was injured.
Cause of fire is yet to be determined, say police
Police sources said that several fire tenders were immediately pressed into service to bring the blaze under control.
The police official said, "The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, but prima facie, it appears the blaze erupted due to some repair activity on the vessel.”
The Muri Ganga is a distributary of the Hooghly river.
