Ashok Leyland on Friday unveiled a new production line at its manufacturing facility in Pantnagar, Uttarakhand, designed to cater to the growing demand for large commercial vehicle cabins. The company's 'women-centric cabin trim line' is focused on promoting gender diversity and equity within the manufacturing industry.

Notably, women make up the majority of the workforce on this production line and are involved in various aspects of the process, including production, sourcing, quality assurance, and production planning.

Production efficiency boost

This state-of-the-art assembly line has the capability to put together 56 cabins per shift, operating in two shifts. It involves the assembly of painted vehicle cabins, complete with essential components such as the steering system, windshields, windows, electronic elements, headlights, and driver's seats. After this assembly, rigorous testing is conducted to ensure that all components are in optimal working order, guaranteeing a safe and comfortable driving experience for users.

Shenu Agarwal, MD and CEO, Ashok Leyland, emphasised the company's aim to foster a more inclusive work environment, stating, "We believe in the importance of creating a more diverse workforce. The new, women-centric line at our Pantnagar plant reinforces our belief in creating a more inclusive ecosystem at Ashok Leyland."
