Auto Sales Decline in Feb: The Indian automotive industry witnessed a decline in its overall sales in February 2025. According to the data released by the Society of Indian Automotive Manufacturers, the overall domestic sales in February 2025 were at 17,73,650 units, falling short by 1,21,840 units. This resulted in a decline of 6.4 per cent on a year-on-year basis. Talking about the passenger vehicle segment, it recorded a surge of 3.7 per cent on a year-on-year basis, as this segment saw total sales of 3,31,254 units in February 2025.
Here is a rundown of the domestic sales of different segments:
As per the data from SIAM, in this segment, the sales of passenger cars recorded a decline of 4.3 per cent on a year-on-year basis, and were recorded at 1,10,996 units in February 2025. The sales of the vans also declined by 5.4 per cent on a year-on-year basis in February 2025. However, the sales of the utility vehicles saw a growth of 9.1 per cent on a year-on-year basis.
“Passenger Vehicles segment remained resilient and posted its highest ever sales of February in 2025 of 3.78 Lakh units, with a growth of 1.9% as compared to February 2024,” Mr Rajesh Menon, Director General, SIAM said.
In the two-wheeler segment, the overall sales of the segment recorded a decline of 9 per cent on a year-on-year basis. In February 2025, the total domestic sales were registered at 13,84,605, falling short by 1,36,156 units.
The scooter segment recorded a marginal decline of 0.5 per cent on a year-on-year basis in February 2025. The decline in the domestic sales of motorcycles further increased, and was recorded at 13.1 per cent on a year-on-year basis. In the moped segment, it saw a decline in domestic sales by 18.2 per cent on a year-on-year basis.
“Two-Wheelers de-grew by (-) 9% in February 2025, as compared to February 2024, with sales of 13.85 Lakh units,” Mr Rajesh Menon, Director General, SIAM said.
