Android Automotive in Bikes: KTM has announced that it is bringing Android Automotive technology to two-wheelers with Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) for the first time. The Android Automotive technology has so far been available in cars, but KTM claims it will be the first manufacturer to offer this technology. The Android Automotive will also support an eSIM – another first for an ICE bike as this connectivity option is currently available in electric bikes.

Let us look at the details of the Android Automotive technology offered by KTM:

What is Android Automotive?

Android Automotive is an open-source operating system (AAOS) designed to power an infotainment system. This technology can be used by car makers and suppliers to build an infotainment system around it. However, this is a complete operating system and it does not require a companion device to function. It has its own interface, supports apps through the Google Play Store, and has various connectivity features, as part of which the upcoming KTM bike will offer eSIM support.

KTM’s new Communication Control Unit:

The automotive manufacturer has announced a new Communication Control Unit (CCU) for its new TFT Dashboard in horizontal and vertical versions, which will be available first on its upcoming premium motorcycles. KTM will also integrate offline maps into the CCU for navigation. It would provide real-time navigation without syncing to the mobile phone of the rider. As per the company, the new CCU will be anti-reflex, anti-fingerprint, and anti-glare screen coatings, to ensure a better experience for the rider.

KTM’s new Communication Control Unit dimensions:

The new Communication Control Unit offered by KTM will be available in both horizontal and vertical formats. It measures 8.8 inches in the horizontal format and 8 inches in the vertical format.

KTM’s new Communication Control Unit specifications:

According to KTM, the new CCU includes 32GB internal storage and 3GB RAM. Additionally, it will have connectivity features like eSIM, GPS, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi. The company has developed the CCU to ensure a seamless reconnection with the rider’s smartphone on every ignition cycle.

KTM’s new Android Automotive future updates:

Regarding the updates of the Android Automotive, all the updates rolled out by the manufacturer will be done via the KTM dealer. In the future, there will be over-the-air (OTA) updates sent directly to the motorcycle.
