E63, E53, CLE Recalled: Mercedes-Benz India, a German luxury automaker has issued a voluntary recall of its sedans in India. According to SIAM, Mercedes-Benz India has recalled 50 units of E63 AMG and 20 units of E53 AMG 4 Matic+ and said that this recall is due to a short circuit that might lead to thermal overload of the connector when the vehicle is parked. Apart from this, about 59 units of CLE Cabriolet have also been voluntarily recalled over a missing warning label about the shutting off of the automatic front passenger airbag.
Let us have a look at what are the pertaining issues with these sedans:
According to SIAM, the issue is stated as ”In the process, it has been identified that the electrical connector coupling for the transmission wiring harness may not meet the current specifications. In this case, there may be chances that water might penetrate the connector and may potentially create chances of a short circuit over a period of time. As a result, the short circuit might lead to thermal overload of the connector when the vehicle is parked. Subsequently, the risk of a thermal incident cannot be ruled out.”
Customers may reach out to their nearest dealership Mercedes Benz India to check about the information on the recall.
Further, according to SIAM, the recall of the CLE Cabriolet is stated as, “In the process, we have found that inadvertently the warning label stating that the feature of automatic front passenger airbag shutoff is not available in the vehicle, may not have been attached to the side wall of the instrument panel on the vehicle. As a result, it might be mistakenly assumed, that a rearward-facing child seat, if affixed, to the front passenger seat would be detected automatically and thus, it might erroneously be installed.”
“Since the front passenger airbag is permanently active on the vehicles, in this scenario, it is advised not to affix any child seat on the front passenger seat as the risk of injury might increase in the event of a crash with airbag deployment,” SIAM stated.
