Chandrayaan-3, India's Moon Mission: Pune-based heavy engineering company Walchandnagar Industries Ltd (WIL) is celebrating its involvement in the successful landing of Chandrayaan-3 on the lunar surface. The company revealed that it manufactured and tested critical booster segments used in the launch vehicle of Chandrayaan-3 at its facility. With a history of supporting the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), WIL played a significant role in the recent lunar mission.
Chandrayaan-3 achieved a momentous feat by making a soft landing on the lunar south pole, making India the fourth country to achieve this milestone and the first to land on this unexplored region. The lander, Vikram, carried the rover Pragyan and successfully touched down near the south polar area of the moon.
The Managing Director and CEO of WIL, Chirag Doshi, highlighted that their state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities adhere to strict ISRO specifications, ensuring quality and reliability. The booster segments, known as S200, were manufactured and underwent proof pressure testing at WIL's facility, specifically focussing on the 3.2-inch diameter dimensions of different segments.
"It was at WIL's exclusive facility that the critical booster segments S200 used in the LVM3 launch vehicle of the Chandrayaan-3 mission were manufactured and proof pressure tested (specifically the 3.2-inch diameter dimensions of the head end, middle, and nozzle end segments)," said a release quoting Doshi.

"We are also extremely proud of our contribution to all the earlier prestigious missions like Mangalyaan, Chandrayaan-1 and 2, and now SLV 3, ASL, PSLV, GSLV MKII, and MKIII, to name a few," Doshi said.
Contribution to space missions
Expressing pride in the company's contribution to various prestigious space missions, Doshi emphasised that the successful Chandrayaan-3 launch coincided with the company's golden jubilee milestone in its partnership with ISRO. The company, which has a 115-year legacy, sees its involvement in Chandrayaan-3 as a testament to its commitment to advancing India's achievements. "As trusted partners, we are proud to be an integral part of India's pride - ISRO and we look forward to contributing further to its remarkable journey of success," Doshi said.
