Adobe co-founder John Warnock dies aged 82

It was in 1982 that Warnock co-founded Adobe with Charles Geschke in his garage, with their first product being PostScript.

Adobe co-founder John Warnock died on Saturday at the age of 82, the company shared in a statement on Sunday. However, the company did not disclose the cause of his death. 

In an email sent to the company employees, Adobe CEO Shantanu Narayen said, "It is a sad day for the Adobe community and the industry for which he has been an inspiration for decades."

It was in 1982 that Warnock co-founded Adobe with Charles Geschke in his garage, with their first product being PostScript, a significant development in the world of desktop publishing. Since then, the company has launched several tools to support creativity, including Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat, Premiere Pro and InDesign to name a few, with Warnock remaining at the helm of affairs as the CEO till 2000, then as Chairman of the Board, a position he held along with Geschke until 2017, after which he continued to be connected to  his brain child in the capacity of a member of the Board of Directors. 

Narayen's email, announcing Warnock's death, said, "John's brilliance and technology innovations changed the world... His vision and passion enabled Adobe to deliver groundbreaking innovations such as Illustrator, the ubiquitous PDF file format and Acrobat, Photoshop and Premiere Pro, defining the desktop era and unleashing creativity and opportunity for millions of people. John has been widely acknowledged as one of the greatest inventors in our generation with significant impact on how we communicate in words, images and videos."

"While the impact that his innovations have had are countless, it is his indomitable spirit, passion and belief in building a company with strong values that has impacted all of us who have had the good fortune of working at Adobe. John was incredibly insightful on which technologies would delight customers as well as create business value. John and his wife, Marva, who is a graphics artist, used our products constantly and set the standard for customer empathy," he added in the email as per the statement shared by the company. 

Warnock is survived by his wife and three children.
