Amazon collaborates with Anthropic: Amazon and Anthropic have announced a strategic partnership to advance generative artificial intelligence (AI) and broaden its accessibility to Amazon Web Services (AWS) customers. Anthropic, a leading foundation model provider known for its AI model named Claude, has chosen AWS as its primary cloud provider. The collaboration will involve using AWS Trainium and Inferentia chips for training and deploying future foundation models, benefiting from AWS's price, performance, scale, and security.

The official statement from Amazon stated that AWS will become Anthropic's primary cloud provider for critical workloads, including safety research and model development. Anthropic commits to providing AWS customers access to future foundation models via Amazon Bedrock, AWS's fully managed service for secure access to industry-leading foundation models.

Amazon to invest $4 billion in Anthropic

According to the press release, Amazon is set to invest up to $4 billion in Anthropic, securing a minority ownership position. This partnership will enable Amazon developers and engineers to use Anthropic models via Amazon Bedrock, allowing them to integrate generative AI capabilities into their work and create novel customer experiences.

Anthropic's foundation model, Claude, excels in various tasks while maintaining reliability and predictability, the statement said. The model has gained significant traction due to its reduced likelihood of harmful outputs and ease of conversation.

This collaboration will work on the development of future Trainium and Inferentia technology. Amazon Bedrock, a fully managed service, enables companies to build generative AI applications on top of various foundation models. The collaboration aims to enhance customer experiences and unlock new possibilities by combining Anthropic's safe AI systems with AWS's leading cloud technology.

Expansion in generative AI

This partnership showcases AWS's continued expansion in the generative AI domain, offering compute instances, foundation models, and generative AI applications. The AWS Generative AI Innovation Center will support customers in developing new generative AI-powered applications.
