The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) seized over 3,500 substandard products, including fake ISI-marked items, from Amazon sellers in Delhi’s Mohan Cooperative Industrial Area, reported ANI
The 15-hour operation on March 19 uncovered Rs 70 lakh worth of electrical appliances like geysers and food mixers. In another raid, BIS seized 590 pairs of sports shoes, valued at Rs 6 lakh, from Flipkart’s Instakart Services in Trinagar for not having ISI marks and manufacturing details.
It may be recalled that over the past month, BIS has conducted similar raids in Delhi, Gurgaon, Faridabad, Lucknow, and Sriperumbudur in order to enforce quality standards. Selling uncertified products is illegal under the BIS Act, 2016, and violators face fines or imprisonment.
At present, there are 769 notified products for compulsory certification by various regulators and line ministries of the Government of India for BIS standardisation. It is prohibited to manufacture, import, distribute, sell, hire, lease, store, or exhibit (for sale) these products without a valid license or Certificate of Compliance (CoC) from BIS.
