Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Maharishi Valmiki Airport in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, on Saturday, heralding a momentous occasion for the region. Named in honour of the revered sage poet Maharishi Valmiki, renowned for his authorship of the epic Ramayana, the airport stands as a testament to the cultural richness and historical significance of Ayodhya.

Advanced infrastructure

Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia lauded PM Modi's unwavering commitment to revolutionising infrastructure nationwide, emphasising the emphasis on modernising airports and railway stations.

Positioned about 15 kilometres from Ayodhya's city centre, the newly established Shri Ram International Airport encompasses a sprawling terminal spanning an impressive 6500 square meters. This facility is engineered to accommodate an estimated annual influx of 10 million passengers.

For sustainability, the airport terminal integrates an array of eco-friendly features, including insulated roofing systems, energy-efficient LED lighting, rainwater harvesting mechanisms, artful landscaping dotted with serene fountains, and the implementation of water and sewage treatment plants. Additionally, a solar power plant contributes to the facility's commitment to environmental responsibility, aligning seamlessly with GRIHA's stringent 5-star rating standards.
