Tata Lockheed Martin Aerostructures Ltd (TLMAL) announced the successful delivery of its 200th C-130J Super Hercules empennage, a crucial tail structure contributing to aircraft stabilisation.

TLMAL, a joint venture formed in 2010 between Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) and Lockheed Martin Aeronautics, celebrated this milestone at its Adibatla facility near Hyderabad.

This accomplishment underscores TLMAL's embodiment of the 'Make in India' initiative and its unique status as the sole global provider of C-130J empennage assemblies. These assemblies are integral to all new Super Hercules aircraft manufactured in Marietta, Georgia, USA.

MoU with Lockheed Martin

Earlier this year, Tata Group and Lockheed Martin entered into a Memorandum of Understanding, commencing the implementation of fighter wing production. This move followed TLMAL's successful demonstration of its capability to manufacture one of the most technologically intricate aerostructures - a 9G, 12,000-hour, interchangeable/replaceable fighter wing designed to carry fuel.

“Each TLMAL-produced empennage literally helps the mighty Super Hercules take a flight to support critical missions that impact lives and make history, Rod McLean,” said Vice President and General Manager of the Air Mobility & Maritime Missions line of business at Lockheed Martin said

McLean emphasised the dedication and expertise of TLMAL's team in constructing these intricate components.

“While it takes many parts and pieces to build an empennage, it also requires a group of highly dedicated and skilled individuals with traits that are continually exemplified by our TLMAL teammates,” McLean added

Sukaran Singh, CEO and Managing Director of Tata Advanced Systems Ltd, said, "Today, we take immense pride in reaching the momentous milestone of producing the 200th empennage for C-130J right here in India. Over the course of more than a decade, this partnership has achieved unrivalled manufacturing and operational excellence."
