Motherson Share Price: Auto Component Maker Shares Skid 4.3% on Trump's Tariff Shock

Shares of Samvardhana Motherson International, fell 4.3% to Rs 124.75 in early trade on Thursday after U.S. President Donald Trump announced that a 25% tariff on imported cars and light trucks would take effect next week.

Samvardhana Motherson is one of India's leading car component makers, with a strong presence in the United States and Europe. The company supplies components to major American automakers like as Tesla and Ford.

However, because of its established local manufacturing facilities in various countries, the company is less vulnerable to import tariffs than firms that rely on exports.  

The company has 400 facilities across 43 countries. Motherson has recorded revenues of $20.3 billion during 2023-24 and is ranked among the top 15 automotive suppliers worldwide, according to company website.

Similarly, other car component producers with exposure to the US market, including Bharat Forge, Sansera Engineering, Suprajit Engineering, and Balkrishna Industries, saw share prices fall over fears about the tariffs' impact.

Samvardhana Motherson Block Deal

In an open market transaction on Tuesday, on March 27th, 2025 Goldman Sachs paid Rs 87 crore for shares of Samvardhana Motherson International, a major manufacturer of car components.  According to block trade data on the BSE, American multinational Goldman Sachs bought 65.48 lakh shares of Samvardhana Motherson International through its subsidiary, Goldman Sachs (Singapore) Pte.

The transaction value was Rs 86.90 crore after the shares were purchased at an average price of Rs 132.7 per. Kadensa Capital, an asset management company based in Hong Kong, sold the same quantity of shares at the same price through its subsidiary, Kadensa Master Fund.

Samvardhana Motherson Q3 Results

Samvardhana Motherson International reported a consolidated net profit of Rs 879 crore for the third quarter ended December 31, 2024, last month.

The company reported a net profit of Rs 542 crore for the October-December quarter of the last fiscal. The total revenue from operations rose to Rs 27,666 crore for the third quarter of this fiscal compared to Rs 25,644 crore in the year-ago period.
