India’s S-400 defense system faces new challenge as Pakistan tests Fatah 2 precision strike weapon

Pakistan has successfully test-fired its indigenous long-range precision strike weapon, the Fatah 2, with an impressive range of approximately 249 miles. This marks a substantial advancement over its predecessor, the Fatah 1, known for its range of about 87 miles. 

The Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) highlighted that the Fatah 2 boasts cutting-edge avionics, a sophisticated navigation system, and a unique flight trajectory. The footage released by ISPR suggests that the Fatah 2 is a two-round guided multiple launch rocket system mounted on the Chinese Taian TAS5450 eight-wheel drive chassis. 

Strategic implications of Fatah 2 

The Fatah 2 test underscores Pakistan's efforts to deploy multiple precision strike artillery systems with variable ranges, enhancing its ability to target adversary positions effectively. Analysts, including Frank O’Donnell from the Stimson Center think tank, note that the development of Fatah 2 reflects Pakistan's keen insights gleaned from recent conflicts. The lessons learned include the advantages of employing cost-effective artillery and combat drones for precision ground bombardment, allowing manned fighter aircraft to focus on higher-end missions.

Analysts speculate that the Fatah 2 could be strategically aimed at countering India’s formidable S-400 air defense system. By deploying the Fatah 2 as a decoy, Pakistan aims to create a diversion, potentially providing an opportunity for combat drones to target the S-400 amidst the chaos of bombardment.

India's S-400 Triumf, developed by Russia's Almaz-Antey, stands as one of the world's most advanced long-range surface-to-air missile systems.
