The 8th edition of the joint Special Forces Exercise codenamed "Sangam," between the Indian Navy's MARCOs and the US Navy SEALs concluded successfully at Goa, solidifying the interoperability and camaraderie between the two elite naval forces. The exercise, which spanned from October 23 to November 10, saw both forces engaging in a spectrum of Maritime Special Operations activities, contributing to the enhancement of their joint operational capabilities.

The joint exercise, a key component of Exercise Malabar, focused on honing the skills of both the Indian Navy MARCOs and the United States Navy SEALs in various areas, including Maritime Interdiction Operations, Direct Action Missions, Combat Free Fall Jumps, Special Heliborne Operations, and a range of other specialized training sessions. This rigorous training regimen aimed at strengthening their ability to seamlessly operate together in complex maritime environments.

Exercise Sangam: A symbol of trust and friendship

Exercise Sangam, initiated in 1994, is not just a military exercise but a symbol of the robust military and diplomatic ties between India and the United States. As a standalone bilateral exercise, it underscores the trust and friendship shared between the two nations. The annual joint initiative has become a testament to the commitment to enhancing military cooperation and mutual understanding.

The three-week program also included a focus on Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) operations. Troops from both nations practiced swift and coordinated relief efforts, demonstrating their ability to respond effectively to natural calamities. Additionally, the exercise encompassed training operations related to peacekeeping and peace enforcement, showcasing the forces' versatility in achieving common objectives.

The United States Navy Sea, Air, and Land (SEAL) Teams, commonly known as Navy SEALs, represent the U.S. Navy's primary special operations force. Tasked with conducting small-unit special operation missions across diverse environments, including maritime, jungle, urban, arctic, mountainous, and desert landscapes, SEALs are highly trained and proficient in various tasks such as direct action, special reconnaissance, sabotage, demolition, intelligence gathering, and hydro-graphic reconnaissance.
