New Delhi: A day ahead of India's 78th Independence Day, an Army captain was killed in an ongoing operation in Doda district of Jammu. As per reports, four terrorists are believed to have been gunned down during the encounter, which also injured a civilian. The operation took place in a dense forest area where a cordon and search was conducted to find a group of foreign terrorists in the Shivgarh-Assar belt.
Captain Deepak Singh was critically injured and later died in a military hospital. Four blood-soaked rucksacks and an M4 carbine rifle and an AK-47 were recovered from the scene.
The M4 carbine has become more common in Jammu and Kashmir in recent years. The first instance of its recovery in the region was reported in November 2017. It has since been involved in several major attacks, including the Kathua attack on July 8, the Reasi attack on June 9, and the Poonch terror attack last December. This increase in usage by terrorists highlights the growing presence of advanced weaponry in the region.
