7026 ckm transmission lines added till October 2023 against target of 11,420 ckm: RK Singh

Minister of Power & New and Renewable Energy, RK Singh on Wednesday said that during the current financial year, government set up power lines around 7026 circuit kilometers (ckm) against the target of 11,420 circuit kilometers till October. The government fell short of the target by 4,000 circuit kilometers in the current fiscal till October, he said.
In 2022-2023, the government set up a transmission line of 14,625 circuit km against the target of 14,581 circuit km, the minister added. The Minister was replying to a question in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday. He also told the house that since 2018- till October 2023, the government has set up transmission lines of 87,397 circuit km against the target of 1,07,315 circuit km, causing a shortfall of 19,918 circuit km.

Progress on Renewables
Till October 31, 2023, the government has installed around 179 GW of renewable energy capacity in the Indian grid. The Minister said around 72,018 MW of solar capacity, 51,837 MW of Hydro, 44,292 MW of Wind, and 10,262 MW of biomass energy has been installed in the Indian grid.

According to the Minister, capacity of the National Grid is being expanded on a continuous basis commensurate with the increasing electricity demand and increase in generation capacity. On an average about 16,000 ckm of transmission lines and 75,000 MVA of transformation capacity (220 kV and above voltage level) are being added per year in the country.
