Lucknow: Lakhs of candidates appeared for the Uttar Pradesh police constable recruitment exam on Friday at 1,174 centres across 67 districts in the state amid tight security arrangements, marking the first day of a five-day exercise. The fresh recruitment exercise to fill over 60,000 posts is being carried out after the exams, held on February 17 and 18, were cancelled following allegations of a paper leak.
"We have inspected security arrangements at examination centres. The exams are going on properly and in a smooth manner. CCTVs are working properly as per the expectations of recruitment board, administration and police," Director General of Police (DGP) Prashant Kumar said.
According to the Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board, the exam will be held in two shifts on five days- August 23, 24, 25, 30 and 31. The first shift will be from 10 am to 12 pm, while the second one will start at 3 pm and end at 5 pm. Approximately 9.5 lakh candidates are expected to appear in the exam on each of the five days, government officials said.
The government has implemented strict security measures at every centre to prevent use of unfair means, the officials said.
"The arrangements at the exam centre were good. We are happy because we have got another chance to get recruited in the UP Police," Samar Singh, a candidate who appeared for the exam at a centre here, said.
A large number of women also reached various centres to take the exam. Preeti Gupta, who appeared for the exam in the first shift here, said, "The exam paper was balanced. I am confident that I will clear the exam." Many senior officials were seen inspecting security arrangements at various exam centres.
