Union Education Ministry has planned to create a ‘One Nation, One Student ID' which will be a new unique identification for the students of India which will enable them to digitally store their academic achievements and credit score. This comes on lines of National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The education ministry has notified the states to initiate the process of introducing an Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry or 'APAAR' card dubbed as ‘One Nation, One Student ID’. The states are directed to obtain the consent of parents of all schools under their jurisdiction to initiate the APAAR ID enrollment process.

What is APAAR ID?

The full form of APAAR is ‘Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry’. It is an education ecosystem registry system also called ‘EduLocker’ for the students of all states in India. Each student enrolled from pre-primary to higher education will get an APAAR ID in which their academic qualifications, credit scores and certificates will be stored digitally. Any student who will apply for a new course in any institution or get admission in schools will have to use their APAAR ID creating a digital database of all students in the country.

Benefits of One Nation, One Student ID

The complete academic data like degrees, scholarships, rewards, academic credits and other information of all students will be digitally transferred in the APAAR ID of each student.

Students who take admission in any school or college will have to register for APAAR ID at abc.gov.in via your Digilocker ID or mobile number once.
