All schools in Punjab have been directed to remain closed today, August 9. The schools are closed today in view of the bandh (protest) called by the Christian and Dalit communities in Punjab. All private and government schools will remain closed today. 

Why Punjab Schools are shut today? 

A bandh was called by the Dalit and Christian communities on August 9 to show solidarity with the countrywide protest against the violence happening in Manipur. The protest is staged mainly against the incident where two women in Manipur were allegedly raped and paraded naked by a group of men in Churachandpur, Manipur.

Punjab Bandh Timings?

The Dalit and Christian communities organised a press conference at the Press Club of Jalandhar on August 7 and formed the Manipur Insaf Morcha, as well as announced the Punjab Bandh. The president of Manipur Insaf Morcha, Surjit Thapar said that the Bandh would be conducted from 9 AM to 5 PM on August 9.
