"A Titan Has Departed": Bollywood Condoles The Demise Of Atal Bihari Vajpayee

From music composer-turned-singer, Vishal Dadlani to singer Adnan Sami, Bollywood paid its respects to the former Prime Minister of India, Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Vajpayee passed away at 5:05 pm on Thursday, August 16.

Former Prime Minister of India, Atal Bihari Vajpayee's passing away on Thursday, August 16 saddened many celebrities from Tinseltown. From music composer-turned-singer, Vishal Dadlani to singer Adnan Sami, Bollywood celebrities took to their official Twitter handles to pay their respects to India's 10th Prime Minister. As per the press release by AIIMS, Atal Bihari Vajpayee had been under the hospital's care for 9 weeks. However, his condition deteriorated on Monday, August 13. The former Prime Minister was then put on life support, but passed away on Thursday, August 16, at 5:05 pm at AIIMS, Delhi.

Legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan paid his respects to Vajpayee and said that his father Harivanshrai Bachchan admired Vajpayee's work and Vajpayee admired his father's work. The 'Brahmastra' actor took to Twitter and said, "T 2902 - Atal Bihari Vajpai (1924 - 2018 ) भावपूर्ण श्रधांजलि ; एक महान नेता , प्रख्यात कवि , अद्भुत वक्ता व प्रवक्ता , मिलनसार व्यक्तित्व । बाबूजी के प्रशंसक , और बाबूजी उनके .. An admirer of my Father's works and vice versa ; gentle nature, strong fiery in his speeches." 

Remembering the good old days, veteran actor-turned-politician Shatrughan Sinha shared a rare picture with the late former Prime Minister of India, Atal Bihari Vajpayee and captioned it as, "What lovely memories! What a collosus! बस यादें रह जाती हैं।। RIP Atal Ji."

Veteran actor Anupam Kher posted a video of himself reciting one of Atal Bihari Vajpayee's poems on Twitter thanking him for the lessons the former Prime Mnister taught through his poems. He tweeted, "Thank you #AtalBihariVaajpayeeJi for your LIFE and your LESSONS. #TallestLeaderOfIndia"

Superstar Shah Rukh Khan also shared a heartfelt note about Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Talking about his meeting with the late former Prime Minister, Khan said that they spent a lot of time discussing poetry, films, politics and their ailing knees. The 'Dilwale' star added a picture to his tweet with a note describing his meeting with Vajpayee and captioned it as, "For The Poet Prime Minister of our country, love you Baapji...https://youtu.be/2Im6b_jFuO4 ." 

Actress Madhuri Dixit grieved over the former Prime Minister's demise. The actress who will be seen next in Ayan Mukerji's 'Brahmastra' tweeted, "My heartfelt condolences to the country, as we mourn the demise of our visionary leader, #AtalBihariVajpayee ji. May his soul rest in peace!"

Actor Hrithik Roshan mentioned about the times he met Vajpayee and tweeted, "Met Atalji a few times in my life. Each time was special. I remember him as an extremely kind hearted man. May his soul rest in peace. #RIPAtalBihariVaajpayee."

'Dil Dhadakne Do' actor Farhan Akhtar remembered the former Prime Minister of India, Atal Bihari Vajpayee as a warm and approachable human being and as one of India's greatest leaders. Farhan took to his official Twitter handle and tweeted, "RIP #AtalBihariVaajpayeeJi .. you will be remembered as one of India’s greatest leaders, as an exemplary statesman, as a tour de force for peace and unity and most of all as a genuine, warm, approachable human being." 

Legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar also took to Twitter to pay her respects to Vajpayee. Remembering Vajpayee who was the recipient of the prestigious Bharat Ratna, the  Nightingale of India said, "Rishitulya purva pradhan mantri Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee ji ke swargwas ki vaarta sunke mujhe aise (cont) http://tl.gd/n_1sqkj3i ."

Global icon Priyanka Chopra took to her official Twitter handle and wrote, "Former Prime Minister Shri #AtalBihariVajpayee's visionary ideas and contributions for India were truly remarkable. The nation will always remember... #RIP My thoughts and condolences to the family."

Anil Kapoor posted a tweet on his Twitter handle stating that the country had lost a visionary leader and that he had lost one of his childhood idols. The 'Race 3' actor tweeted, "Today, our country lost a visionary leader & I lost one of my childhood idols...The passing of #AtalBihariVajpayeeji is even more saddening in light of all that he inspired & accomplished in his time with us. My deepest respect & condolences to his family..."

Remembering Vajpayee, actor John Abraham also tweeted, "For me he was one of India’s greatest leaders loved and respected by all. He will be missed. RIP #AtalBihariVajpayee"

John Abraham's co-star from 'Parmanu: The Story of Pokhran' went on to say that the former Prime Minister's demise is the end of an era. She tweeted, "The end of an era... #RIP #AtalBihariVajpayee Ji. India has lost one of its best today. But his contribution to the nation will always be remembered..."

Music director-turned-singer Vishal Dadlani tweeted about the incident and said, "A Titan has departed. There was more impact and gravitas in the pauses between his words, than there are in the petty political speeches we hear these days. #AtalBihariVaajpayee."

Actress Dia Mirza took to her official Twitter handle and said, " Let no one challenge India's secularism.” - Atal Bihari Vajpayee #Salute #Respect Growing up in India in the 1980’s and 90’s one can never forget what a deep impact #AtalBihariVaajpayee ji made on us... he was a great statesman and leader. #RIP."

South superstar Rajinikanth who recently announced his entry in Politics also paid respect to Vajpayee. The 'Kaala' actor tweeted saying, "I’m saddened to hear the demise of a great statesman Shri.Vajpayee ji. May his soul Rest In Peace."

Actor Suniel Shetty said that Vajpayee had left behind a legacy of greatness that will inspire generations forever. Suniel in his tweet said, "India loses a GEM! Leaving behind a legacy of greatness that will inspire generations forever! #AtalBihariVajpayee"

'Baahubali 2: The Conclusion' star Rana Daggubati also posted on Twitter remembering the former Prime Minister. Rana wrote, "Today we lost a great statesman, poet and orator. A man who dreamed of a glorious nation and strived to take us on the path to prosperity. Rest in Peace #AtalBihariVajpayee ji."

'Bareilly Ki Barfi' star Ayushmann Khurrana also took to Twitter and wrote, "He was a rare statesman. #RIPAtalBihariVaajpayee"

'Gunday' actor Arjun Kapoor also paid his respects to Atal Bihari Vajpayee and said, "Heartfelt condolences to #AtalBihariVajpayee ji's family and dear ones. May his soul rest in peace."

Remembering her childhood and growing up years, actress Parineeti Chopra talks about Vajpayee and tweeted, "My growing up years were spent under the country leadership of #AtalBihariVajpayee. And so for me, all memories of any prime minister are always compared to him !! He's going to live forever in our hearts."

Actor Boman Irani took to his Twitter handle and tweeted, "It is rare to find love and respect across the entire politcal spectrum. Atalji, was the rarest of them all. Alvida #AtalBihariVajpayee."

Actor Sanjay Dutt expressed his grief saying, "Indeed a big loss for our country as we pay our last tribute to #AtalBihariVajpayee ji. He was a close family friend and his legacy will forever be remembered. Thank you for your selfless service, sir! My heartfelt condolence to everyone."

Actress Huma Qureshi paid her respects for the former Prime Minister of India saying, " Respect always #AtalBihariVajpayee sir.... RIP"

Bollywood actress Payal Rohatgi took to Twitter to pay her respects to the former Prime Minister and tweeted, "Respect can’t be demanded. It has to be Earned. श्रद्धांजली #AtalBihariVaajpayee The former PM of India whose life just proved that. For him the whole #India was his #family. May his soul rest in peace. RIP."

Bollywood actress Koena Mitra also tweeted saying, "True statesman, who ushered India into 21st century as a Nuclear Power. A Beautiful Soul, Poet, Fierce Leader. Rest in peace Sir. #AtalBihariVaajpayee #RIP."

Adnan Sami expressed his grief over the passing away of Atal Bihari Vajpayee and tweeted, "Extremely saddened to learn of the passing away of former Prime Minister Sri Atal Bihari Vajpayee ji. Apart from being one of the greatest statesman India has seen, he was a great man of ‘Peace’. He spread love everywhere he went... May he rest in peace. #AtalBihariVaajpayee."
