Singer Sona Mohapatra who has slammed several celebrities including Salman Khan over the past few years now took to her Twitter handle to slam Shahid Kapoor for doing 'misogynistic' film like 'Kabir Singh'.

Quoting a tweet by National Commission for Women chairperson Rekha Sharma (which she has now deleted), Sona on her Twitter timeline wrote, “Didn’t notice the deeply misogynistic & patriarchal narrative? Just intense acting? That is truly deeply disturbing. That you are the chairperson of the @NCWIndia, makes me wonder about what we can hope for when it comes to women’s place in #India .”

She further went on to write: "“& how can we keep such deeply disturbing, dark & dangerous politics ‘aside’? Does the actor have no responsibility for choosing to play a part in a narrative that can set us back as a society? Is that all we have become? Creatures of ambition? #LetsTalk #India #KabirSingh.”

Shahid Kapoor on Wednesday said one can draw comparisons between his latest "Kabir Singh" and classic "Devdas" as the two films revolve around self-destructive men in love.

The actor said being referred to as a "Modern Devdas" was a compliment for him.

"I think the character of Kabir in the film loves with full passion and when his heart breaks, he feels lost and becomes self-destructive. It is difficult to hate the girl but yes, I think he starts hating himself," he said.

The film's female lead, Kiara Advani, said "Kabir Singh" was "not a perfect love story".

"There are some strengths in every person and so there are some weaknesses. None of us are perfect. We all have our good qualities and our bad qualities. But that doesn't make us bad people.

Director Sandeep Vanga Reddy, the film is the Hindi remake of the director's Telugu blockbuster "Arjun Reddy".
