Gerard Butler shot to fame after he portrayed the role of King Leonidas in the film 300. 300 which is considered a cult classic was based on the story of King Leonidas leading his army of 300 Spartans to fight against the Persians. His realistic portrayal of the king led him to be nominated for several awards even though the film was faced with heavy criticism regarding the plotline’s historical accuracy.

2. The Phantom of the Opera

The Phantom of the Opera which is based on a musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber’s of the same name was released in 2004. The film received mixed reviews from critics. But The Phantom of the Opera was appreciated by the audience. Gerard Butler had to take singing lessons to nail his part since his co-actors were already good at it.  Gerard butler’s efforts were fruitful since he won a Satellite Award for Best Actor for this film.

Gerard Butler won a People’s Choice Award for Best Action Star for his role in the film.

Gerard Butler is no new face in the romantic comedy scene. The 300 actor has worked in several romantic comedies. One of his best performances to date is considered to be in the film The Ugly Truth.
