As the Hollywood industry is grappling with the tragic accident at sets of Rust resulting in the death of the cinematographer, Squid Game director Hwang Dong-hyuk talks about safety precautions on set. The writer-director, who is receiving rave reviews for his latest release, told Variety about the precautions that the makers adopt on the set.

Squid Game is reportedly considered to be an ‘intensely violent series’ that involves a lot of bloodshed due to firing by a gun. Though the series hold massive popularity post its premiere on Netflix, the director revealed how they had prepared for each scene. The directors shared that Korea is not really a gun-owning country and hence it is accessible to the police only. Further, Dong-Hyuk states that because of the strict norms by the country, bullets are not really easy as distributed as they are maybe in Hollywood, so there’s a very low, low possibility of any safety issues happening on set.

'Squid Game' director Hwang Dong-hyuk confesses of never seeing a real bullet

The director confessed that he has not really seen a real bullet and has always seen them in those heavy-action films. A shooting incident occurred on the set of Rust on October 21 that left cinematographer Halyna Hutchins dead and director Joel Souza injured. Hollywood actor Alec Baldwin discharged a prop gun, believing it was “cold”, meaning safe to fire. The Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Department said last week that it is still investigating the incident that took the life of the cinematographer, Halyna Hutchins. The Sheriff's Department stated that since the investigation is underway, so it is “too early” to comment on any charges that may be brought. Filming of Rust has been suspended since the incident.

Meanwhile, the massively popular Korean series Squid Game will return for a second season. The news has been confirmed by creator Hwang Dong-hyuk to the Associated Press at a screening of the show in Los Angeles recently. The director who has been receiving an overwhelming response from the people for the first part shared that there has been a lot of pressure, so much demand and so much love for a second season. "So I almost feel like you leave us no choice! But I will say there will indeed be a second season of Squid Game. It’s in my head right now. I’m in the planning process currently," he told the news agency.
