Candle in the wind 1997 is a re-written and re-recorded version of Elton John and Bernie Taupin’s 1973 song Candle in the wind. The song was reportedly a tribute to Princess Diana of Wales, with the proceeds going to her charities. The song is the second highest-selling single of all time. It peaked at #1 in the Billboard Hot 100 and also topped the UK Singles Chart.

2. That’s what Friends are for

The song was originally written by Burt Bacharach and Carole Bayer Sager and was recorded by Rod Stewart. The song’s cover by Dionne Warwick, Elton John, Gladys Knight, and Steve Wonder, dubbed as Dionne and Friends struck a chord and became one of John’s greatest hits. It was the number one single in 1986 and also won the Grammy Award for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals. It also won the song of the year.

3. Philadelphia Freedom

Philadelphia Freedom was released as a single by The Elton John Band in 1975. The song was written as a favour to John’s friend and Tennis star Billy Jean King, who was part of the Philadelphia Freedoms professional tennis team. It peaked at #1 in Billboard Hot 100. The song was one of his 6 chartbusters in the 70s.

4. Don’t Go Breaking My Heart

Don’t go breaking My heart is a duet sung Elton John and Kiki Dee. The song released in 1976, was Elton John’s first UK #1 track. The song was his 6th US #1 track.  The song was written by Bernie Taupin and Elton John under the pseudonyms Carte Blanche and Ann Orson.

5. Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me

Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me was written by Bernie Taupin and Elton John. The song was re-recorded with John and George Michael in 1992. The song peaked at #1 in the US and UK charts. The song topped the charts for two consecutive weeks. It was nominated for 2 Grammy Awards.
