Popular 'jatra' actor Tridib Ghosh dies at 68

A popular actor of Bengali folk theatre jatra, Tridib Ghosh, died of cardiac arrest at his residence here on Monday, his family said. He was 68.

A popular actor of Bengali folk theatre jatra, Tridib Ghosh, died of cardiac arrest at his residence here on Monday, his family said. He was 68. 

Ghosh is survived by his four brothers and three sisters.  

Having started his career in 1975 at Chittaranjan Opera, Ghosh joined Natya Company, one of the biggest names in the jatra world in Bengal.  

He had also been a part of other big folk theatre troupes like Bharati Opera and Agragami Opera in his 45-year-old career.  

He is appreciated for his roles in Hate Bazare, Samrat Mirzafar and Ma Bikrir Mamla.  

"Jatra" is a popular folk theatre form in Bengal having wowed rural audiences for over 100 years.  Ghosh had also played side roles in Bengali films like Swasurbari Zindabad and Atmiyo Swajan.
