The nominations for 66th Grammy Awards were announced earlier on Friday evening. While Barbie fans were enthused to see 11 nominations for their beloved movie’s soundtrack, and fans of artists like SZA, Miley Cyrus and Taylor Swift were excited as well to find nominations for their favourite artist, one fandom that was really left displeased all over again was the BTS Army as their favourite K-Pop Band found themselves with no nomination at this year’s Grammys.
“BTS don’t Need Grammy, Grammy needs them for views,” wrote an X user
Many netizens took to social media to express their anger about BTS members being ignored yet again at the Grammys, despite delivering chartbuster songs in the year gone by. One X user posted, “So You Are Saying That This Legendary, History Making, Record Breaking, Fastest Song in History to Achieve 1 Billion Streams on Spotify (And Many Others Records) Didn’t Get a Single Nomination at #Grammys, Seriously?? BTS Paved the Way. BTS. Jungkook Paved the Way”
The said user also shared a clip of Jungkook’s performance to his chartbuster song Seven. Another X user wrote, “BTS don’t Need Grammy, actually Grammy needs them for views.”
SZA received 9 nominations at this year's Grammys
Amidst all the angsty expression on the internet, many members of the BTS Army also reminded other music lovers that BTS remains the only K-pop band to ever receive a Grammy nomination. One X user posted, “The indirect nomination is nice but I hope y’all understand that it’s really hard for kpop groups to get a Grammy anyways so we shouldn’t really be surprised cause BTS are the only group that’s ever been nominated.” It is to be noted that BTS had received nominations at the 2021 and 2022 Grammys for their songs Dynamite and Butter respectively, while the previous Grammys, held in February 2023, saw them bagging 3 nominations in the categories of Best Music Video, Album of the Year, and Best Pop Duo/Group performance.
