Amrita Rao Reveals She Received Marriage Proposals From Foreigners After Vivah: It Was Magical

Amrita Rao and Shahid Kapoor played the lead roles in the 2006 film Vivah. The film served as one of the most popular and critically acclaimed movies of Amrita’s career. In a new podcast, the actress opened up about working on the film and her equation with co-star Shahid Kapoor. 

Amrita Rao recalls getting a marriage proposal after Vivah

In a recent interview on the YouTube channel of Rajshri Productions, Amrita Rao recalled the impact of Vivah on her life. She shared how she got several marriage proposals from boys living overseas. She recalled how his character deeply influenced her personal life. 

The actress shared, “When Vivah came out, I got these marriage proposals and since we didn’t have that many smartphones back then, I mostly got letters from men from Canada and the US. They always sent me photos of their house, their mothers and their cars. Back then, I used to laugh at these things. But when I look back on it now, I think of the impact a role has: they just want to marry you. It was so magical.” 

Amrita Rao opens up on Vivah’s box office reception 

In the same chat, the Main Hoon Na actress also spoke about the box office reception of the movie. She shared that people called her role in Vivah ‘regressive’. She shared that the director of the film Sooraj Barjatya did not get affected by the negative reviews of the film. She shared that the audience ultimately liked the film. The movie became a hit at the box office and grossed ₹100 crore.
