Vasan Bala unveiled the teaser trailer of his film Jigra starring Alia Bhatt and Vedang Raina today, September 8. Following the teaser release several industry insiders and fans of the actors took to their social media accounts to share it and heap praises on the movie. One such celebrity who gave a shoutout for the film was Shraddha Kapoor. While Vasan Bala reshared her post, he did it along with a special apology to her.

Why did Vasan Bala apologise to Shraddha Kapoor?

On September 8 following the release of the Jigra teaser, Shraddha Kapoor took to her Insatgram account to share the clip of the film. She shared the teaser along with the message, “Kya kamaal ladki hai @aliaabhatt...Kya amazing trailer hai @vasanbala #Jigra.” Interestingly, fans of the actress noticed her giving a shoutout to the Jigra team despite them not mentioning her in Stree 2 posts.

The thought did not skip director Vasan Bala's mind as well. He shared Shraddha's post and wrote, “Thank you so much Shraddha, hope you and Siddhanth enjoy the film too.” He then apologised to her by saying, “And unrelated but I'll take this opportunity to address - sorry to your fans...Bhool chuk maaf." This comes after he skipped Shraddha's mention when sharing posts on Stree 2m upsetting her fans. Alia Bhatt , too shared Shraddha's post with the caption, “Haha thank you my blockbuster Stree." However, fans of Shraddha continue to allege that Bala and Alia's course correction comes as an afterthought as their film is on the cusp of release.

Alia Bhatt turns protector for her brother in Jigra teaser

The Jigra teaser begins with Alia sitting at a bar as she narrates her, and her brother’s story to a middle aged man. She reveals that she and her brother (played by Vedang Raina) lost both their parents at an early age, they were provided a place to stay by a relative, who metaphorically charged them too much. It is then revealed that Alia is on a mission to take her brother out of a prison by carrying out a jail break. The following shots establish the grit of Alia’s character as she trains physically to carry out the jail break.

Vedang Raina, who plays Alia’s brother in the film, doesn’t show up until the very last moments, and when he does, his silences take the teaser to a different level. By the looks of it, Jigra seems to be inspired by the Russell Crowe-starrer The Next Three Days which itself was inspired by the French film Pour elle by Fred Cavaye. In The Next Three Days Russell Crowe takes extreme measures to break his wife out of prison after she is wrongfully convicted for the murder of her boss, in Jigra the lead characters are of a brother and a sister.

The film is directed by Vasan Bala of Monica, O My Darling fame. Produced by Dharma Productions, Jigra is set to bow in cinemas on October 11.
