Akshay Kumar headlined the 2021 film Sooryavanshi. Directed by Rohit Shetty, the action flick is a part of the director’s cop universe. In a recent conversation, the filmmaker, who is awaiting the release of his web series Indian Police Force, narrated an anecdote from Sooryavanshi sets which left him angry with the lead actor while leaving him impressed with him at the same time.
“There is no showsha, no powder in him,” says Rohit Shetty about Akshay Kumar
In a conversation with comedians Bharti Singh and her husband Harsh Limbachiya, Rohit Shetty shared an anecdote from a Sooryavanshi shoot. He recalled Akshay Kumar was not wearing his safety gear as he was hanging from a helicopter. Akshay convinced the pilot to circle the helicopter, even though Shetty had told him to just move it up and down and not forward.
Rohit remembered, “We took that shot in Bangkok. He was hanging from the helicopter and I had said, ‘This is a safety shot, we won’t go ahead until I tie a harness. Just go up and come down, don’t go around.’ Meanwhile, I was watching the shoot, I saw that he took around the helicopter while Akshay was hanging on his hand, his entire body weight was on his hand. Main jo bhadka hun pilot par (I got angry at the pilot) and he said, ‘Inhone bola tha’ (pointing towards Kumar).” However, the director lauded the actor post the scene and even kept it in the final cut of the movie. He heaped praises on Akshay’s fitness and discipline and exclaimed, “There is no showsha, no powder in him”.
Akshay Kumar-Rohit Shetty to collaborate again in Singham 3
On November 5 Akshay Kumar took to his social media account and shared the look of his Rohit Shetty cop universe character ATS Chief Veer Sooryavanshi. With a picture, he announced his inclusion in Shetty's upcoming film Singham Again. The photo showed him in the middle of a heavy-duty action scene, jumping off a chopper and wielding guns in both hands. Sharing the still, on his Instagram the 'Hera Pheri' star wrote: "Aila re aila, #Sooryavanshi aila’ Time for ATS Chief Veer Sooryavanshi’s entry. Are you ready?”
Director Rohit Shetty also shared the still on his Instagram as he wrote: “In Singham Again, we are just doing what our fans want us to do! So here it is…Akshay Kumar and a helicopter! As we complete 2 years of Sooryavanshi, VEER SOORYAVANSHI joins the battle with Singham.” Shetty has created a cop universe in Bollywood with three of his major films – Singham, Simmba and Sooryavanshi, starring Ajay Devgn, Ranveer Singh, and Akshay Kumar, respectively. The narratives and arcs of each film will now bleed into each other extending the cop universe.
