Emergency Release Date: CBFC Clears Film With Certification After 1 Month Delay, Kangana Announces
The actress took to X and shared, “We are glad to announce we have received the censor certificate for our movie Emergency." The release date will be out soon.
Emergency Release Date: The Kangana Ranaut starrer and directorial is all set to release soon. The actress took to X and shared, “We are glad to announce we have received the censor certificate for our movie Emergency, we will be announcing the release date soon. Thank you for your patience and support.” The update from Kangana came after the initial planned release of the film on September 6 was delayed pending CBFC clearance. What followed was the Court's intervention and a series of negotiations between the producers of the film and the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). As told to the Court, Kangana and the producers of the film have agreed to the cuts suggested by the review committee.
What caused a delay in Emergency release?
The movie was initially slated for a September 6 release. It got embroiled in a battle with the censor board for non-issuance of certificate for its release. Kangana Ranaut , who has directed and co-produced the film besides playing the lead role of former prime minister, late Indira Gandhi, had accused the CBFC of stalling certification to delay the release.
The biographical drama is caught up in controversy after some Sikh organisations including the Shiromani Akali Dal objected, accusing it of misrepresenting the community and getting historical facts wrong.
CBFC's review committee suggests cuts in Emergency
A review committee of the Central Board of Film Certification suggested cuts in the Kangana Ranaut starrer before it was granted a certificate. During the hearing on September 30, advocate Sharan Jagtiani, representing Zee Entertainment, told the Bombay High Court that Kangana Ranaut has informed them about the revised changes that the CBFC wanted to be made in the film. The matter has been agreed and discussed between her (Kangana) and the CBFC, he said.
CBFC counsel Abhinav Chandrachud told the bench that the cuts would not touch even one minute and won't affect the movie's length. Most of the changes have been agreed upon by Manikarma Films, owned by Kangana, he added.
