Bollywood News: Emergency trailer has finally been unveiled today, August 14 after much delay. Kangana Ranaut starrer chronicles the political journey of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The movie also stars Milind Soman, Shreyas Talpade, Anupam Kher and Mahima Chaudhry, in pivotal roles. The trailer talks about how Indira Gandhi's life was a "Shakespearean tragedy".

Emergency offers a glimpse into former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi's leadership

The over 2-minute trailer offers a glimpse of the rise of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi after the death of her father and first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. The trailer begins with the time when Gungi Gudia aka Indira Gandhi first held the reigns of PM in 1966, her decision-making during the 1971 war with Pakistan and the last event of her career which has been termed as the darkest chapter in Indian history, the Emergency, leading to her assassination. In the trailer, Kangana is heard giving hard-hitting dialogues, such as “India is Indira and Indira is India” and “Main hi cabinet hun.” The trailer ends with Kangana's emotional dialogue, "Nafrat, aur mila kya hai mujhe iss desh se (What have I got from this country besides hate)?”

The trailer offers a glimpse of Vishak Nair as Indira Gandhi's younger son Sanjay Gandhi, Milind Soman as Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, Shreyas as Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Ashok Chhabra as Morarji Desai.

What else do we know about Emergency?

Talking about her movie, Kangana in a statement said that she is "deeply" inspired by William Shakespeare's Macbeth. "Essence of Emergency is the destruction wrought when ambition goes unchecked by moral constraints, it is undoubtedly the most sensational chapter of Indian democracy and I am eagerly awaiting its worldwide release."

Helmed and co-produced by Kangana Ranaut herself, the biographical political drama is slated to release on September 6.
