Farhan Akhtar Shares His Daughters Became 'Collateral Damage' In His Divorce From Adhuna Bhabani

Farhan Akhtar, who is married to Shibani Dandekar, was earlier married to Adhuna Bhabani. The two separated in 2016, ending their 16-year-long marriage and the custody of their daughters went to Adhuna. In a recent podcast, the actor and filmmaker opened up about the impact of his divorce on his daughters. He said that he felt "tremendously guilty" towards his children.

'There will be some degree of anger within them'

Farhan recently appeared on a podcast with his wife Shibani, where he opened up about his relations with his daughters and how he feels they were like "collateral damage" in some emotional way. He said it could not have been easy for them and there will be “some degree of anger even now within them.”

"Some sadness, some resentment. That is something that with time and conversation there will be some kind of solace and understanding. For me, I did feel tremendously guilty… towards them when Adhuna and I are divorced because it had nothing to do with them. So they are the kind of like collateral damage in some emotional way," he added.

When Farhan Akhtar revealed he was reminded of his parents during his divorce

Earlier in an interview, Farhan opened up about his divorce from Adhuna and shared how he was reminded of his parents Javed Akhtar and Honey Irani during his separation. He felt that it came to a place if he and Adhuna spoke to Javed and Honey about their decision to separate and the reason behind it.

Farhan and Adhuna got married in 2000, after dating each other for 3 years. They first met during the filming of Farhan's directorial debut Dil Chahta Hai, which also marked Adhuna's debut as a Bollywood hairstylist. However, after 16 years the duo decided to part ways and move on in their lives. Farhan married Shibani after dating for around 4 years in an intimate ceremony in Khandala.
