Fashion 2 On The Cards? Director Madhur Bhandarkar Teases Plot Details

Madhur Bhandarkar is known for giving hit movies to Bollywood, such as Chandni Bar, Page 3 and Traffic Signal. In his recent interview, the filmmaker shared his intentions to create a sequel of one of his hit movies, Fashion. Starring Priyanka Chopra, Kangana Ranaut and Mugdha Godse, the movie was widely appreciated by the critics and audience. for the movie, both Priyanka and Kangana won National Film Awards in the Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress categories.

Madhur Bhandarkar spills the beans about the Fashion sequel

In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Madhur shared his desire to create a movie or a sequel exploring the present conditions of the modelling and fashion industry. Through his movie, he wants to shed light on the diminishing prominence of supermodels in the age of social media where celebs are taking centre stage at fashion shows as showstoppers and influencers taking the place of models on runaways.

“I feel Fashion has all the potential for a sequel. Today, the world of fashion has changed. As a filmmaker, I feel I have a lot of material and hence, it can be turned into a show, spanning a couple of seasons. But it also is apt for a film. Hence, nothing has been decided yet. The subject, however, is interesting," he said.

Where have these supermodels disappeared? Asks Madhur Bhandarkar

In the same conversation, Madhur highlighted social media has taken over. There was a time when we used to hear of supermodels. However, in the last few years, it has declined. "Can you recall the name of any supermodel? Bollywood celebs have taken over and have become showstoppers. This is what I want to ask through Fashion 2 - where have these supermodels disappeared? A girl sitting in some small town can be a model or an influencer. I want to focus on these aspects,” he added.

What was the plot of Fashion?

The story revolves around Meghna Mathur (played by Priyanka), an aspiring fashion model; it follows her transformation from small-town girl to supermodel, the Indian fashion industry and the careers of several other models. Fashion also explores feminism and female power in Indian fashion.
