Fatima had started working in films when she was merely 4 years old. Fatima's first film was the Kamal Haasan directorial comedy Chachi 420. She later worked in films like One 2 ka 4 and Bade Dilwala and quit films for a few years until her return with the Nitesh Tiwary film Dangal. However, Fatima recalled hating the experience of being on film sets and acting. Fatima said, “I hated acting and didn’t want to be an actor when I was a kid. And so, I carried that emotion.”

Fatima also spoke about the difficulties usually faced by children to express themselves about difficult issues like this. She stated, “It is difficult for adults to understand when a child says that they do not want to go with this path. So that’s the struggle. It’s not that you don’t want to do it, but to make your parents or people who are in control of it to understand that this kid doesn’t want to do this. I didn’t want to do it.“
