Gadar 2: Manish Wadhwa, Utkarsh Sharma say film's box office success 'beyond expectations'

Gadar 2 has been roaring at the box office since its release on August 11. The film shattered several records by becoming the second-highest opener of the year, one of the fastest films to mint ₹200 crore this year, the biggest Independence Day holiday grosser ever and registering the highest collections on its second weekend since release. With a steady pace in numbers, the film is expected to become the highest-grosser of the year this week. In a new interview, the cast of Gadar 2 discusses the importance of box-office numbers.

Manish Wadhwa reacts to Gadar 2 surpassing Pathaan’s collection 

In a conversation with DNA, the antagonist of Gadar 2, Manish Wadhwa was told that the film fared better than Siddharth Anand-directed Pathaan on its second weekend of release. The actor reacted to this by saying, “We don’t talk about numbers but what is happening, shows people’s love.” He added that even though he anticipated a good reception for the film, the success it has achieved is “beyond expectations”.

Utkarsh Sharma credits Gadar 2 for the revival of single-screen theatres 

Utkarsh Sharma is the son of Gadar 2 director Anil Sharma and plays the role of the protagonist’s son, Chiranjeet Singh in the film. While his role was limited in the original film, the sequel entails a meatier role for the 29-year-old actor. In the same interview, he recalled watching Gadar: Ek Prem Katha in single-screen halls and added that he has seen the same being replicated with people flocking to single-screen theatres to watch the sequel. He added, “It is the result of euphoria that we are seeing now across India.”

The actor also opined that the Sunny Deol starrer has not just brought business from metropolitan cities, but has also worked well in smaller towns. He said, “This is not a film of just Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore. It is a film that has worked in smaller towns like Indore, Agra, and even towns of Punjab.” He also credited the film for bringing people back to the theatre and reviving single-screen cinemas.
