Annu Kapoor starrer Hamare Baarah has been in the news for all the wrong reasons. The movie is currently battling to win a legal case regarding its theatrical release. On Wednesday, the makers announced the new release date following Bombay High Court's decision to screen the movie. However, the Supreme Court has now suspended the screening of the film.

What did the Supreme Court say?

Hamare Baarah, set against the backdrop of Uttar Pradesh, encourages contemplation on society's views on family size and the importance of women's empowerment. The movie follows Manzoor Ali Khan Sanjari, played by Annu Kapoor, who insists on having more children despite dangers. His daughter Alfiya takes him to court to save her stepmother's life, sparking a battle between patriarchal traditions and individual rights.

Owing to its controversial plot, several people filed a petition against the release of the movie. Following the Bombay High Court's decision, the Supreme Court has suspended the screening of the movie until disposal by the Bombay High Court of the main petition challenging its release. "Until disposal of the petition before the High Court, screening of the movie in question shall remain suspended," Live Law's official post read.

How did producer Virender Bhagat react to Supreme Court's verdict?

Speaking to ANI, the producer thanked the Supreme Court for hearing their case and said that the court has given the instructions to hear this matter immediately. “I want to thank the Supreme Court for hearing us today...The censor board said that this is a movie on women's empowerment and population awareness and had submitted the report to the Bombay High Court....The Supreme Court said that the film screening would be stopped as decided by the Bombay High Court. SC also gave instructions to hear this matter immediately and give a verdict on this as early as possible,” he added.

What else do we know about Hamare Baarah?

Jointly produced by Virendra Bhagat, Ravi S Gupta, Sanjay Nagpal and Shiv Balak Singh and directed by Kamal Chandra, the movie is scripted by Rajan Agarwal. Producers of the film Hamare Baarah earlier stated, "It's a very special movie for us. We have invested the savings of our entire life in making Hamare Baarah. A few people from specific communities have tried to sabotage the film with fake and manipulative messages and assumptions that the film is against them, which it is not. Another challenge we faced was when big corporate houses and key supporters of the film left us halfway and withdrew from their responsibilities."
